Unapologetic progressive. Fearless activist. Plucky liberal.

“Admit it, ladies, we can’t live without makeup.”

I heard that ad on the radio this afternoon and was so disgusted I had to change the station before I heard anymore.

Seriously? Seriously?! Last I checked, makeup wasn’t edible or necessary to our daily survival, so yes, I think women can live without makeup.

The sad thing is this ad is just being more honest than a lot of ads that try to tell women their only worth is in how good they look. In reality, my value as a person has no relationship to my appearance. That’s a message we need to hammering into little girls before they buy into conventional beauty standards and develop eating disorders and unhealthy body images.

That. And also that make-up doesn’t necessarily make you look better anyway.
