Unapologetic progressive. Fearless activist. Plucky liberal.

Not only is this Women’s History Month, but today, March 8, is also International Women’s Day. It happens to be the 100th anniversary of the day set aside to honor the most populous and oppressed group on the planet. In some countries, today is a national holiday. Sounds good to me — not because I want a day off, but because as Kristin Davis points out in Join the Quiet Revolution, “there isn’t a single country that can claim its women are treated equally to men.”

So if you do nothing else to celebrate today, tell your wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend or neighbor how much you appreciate her. I’ve been blessed to have amazing women role models in my family, and their strength inspires me all the time.

Today is also Feminist Coming Out Day. If you read this blog you know that I’m a feminist. Consider calling yourself one if you believe in equal rights for all women, men and children. I really believe that feminism benefits everyone, not just women, and the more people who stand by our side — even if you don’t want to identify as a feminist — the more powerful we will be.

  1. I know I appreciate having the best blog partner on the planet, who is also a very dear friend and whom I respect and admire. I also consider myself a feminist.
