Unapologetic progressive. Fearless activist. Plucky liberal.

Please keep the people of Japan in your thoughts and prayers today as they deal with a devastating earthquake and tsunami. This site lists the charities that are accepting donations to help those affected by the disasters.

Also, the people of Christchurch, New Zealand, are still dealing with the cleanup from a deadly earthquake last month. You can donate to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

It’s not coincidence that these two quakes happened in such quick succession. Japan tragedy related to New Zealand’s calamity explains how one quake can touch off another. The same thing happened with the 2004 Boxing Day earthquake that triggered tsunamis that killed 200,000 people.

Edited to add: I’ve been informed that the Red Cross doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to caring for queer and trans survivors of disasters. Instead of giving money to them, please give it to groups whose aid is inclusive, such as Doctors Without Borders, which has an excellent reputation and rating at Charity Navigator.
